About Us
Harold D. Coomer was born to Cager C. and Edith Curry Coomer on July 11, 1946, in the city of Chicago, IL. His family moved to the state of Kentucky in 1947. At the age of 18, Harold’s life was drastically changed when he personally encountered Jesus Christ at a youth camp in Bonify, FL, under the ministry of Rev. George Philips.
Harold’s life immediately touched and influenced many young people. In the fall of 1964, Harold accepted the call to ministry to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Due to Harold’s past, many doubted if he was hearing right. Even his own parents questioned whether he was hearing correctly, but God’s hand was certainly on him. As a result, many lives were changed because of Christ who was now living in Harold.
He graduated from high school in 1965, and spent four years in college learning that God had a plan for his life. In the winter of 1968, he accepted the call to pastor the Bear-Wallow United Methodist Church in Columbia, KY. There, he experienced a great need to depend on God for guidance.
In March of 1968, Harold met Vivecia Ann Alvarez, who was a student at Campbellsville College in Campbellsville, KY. This was also Harold’s hometown. It didn’t take long for him to ask her to be his wife. On June 3, 1968, Harold and Vivecia were united in marriage. They immediately started a ministry together in Greenville, KY with four small, rural churches. They continued their education at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, KY.
In the summer of 1972, Harold felt the call to begin his own evangelistic association. So, by blind faith, he began the evangelistic association and formed a board of directors. He preached in different cities by conducting meeting in National Guard armories. In those days, Harold would preach for fourteen nights straight. In the first year, he saw many people come to Christ. By 1974, he and Vivecia had two children, Chad and Soni.
Harold was introduced to the Church of God based in Anderson, IN by a dear friend in 1974. By this time, his evangelistic ministry seemed to have ended. God opened doors for ministry with Rev. Ron Lowe, who pastored the First Church of God in Vero Beach, FL. In 1976, Harold accepted a full-time pastoral position in Collinsville, MS, just outside Meridian, MS. Here, he experienced steady growth for six years. During this time he met some wonderful people and shared great experiences. By this time, he and Vivecia had four children. In June 1976, twin girls, Kristi and Misti, were born and happily welcomed into the family. Their children have brought much joy to their lives.
In 1982, the family was called to pastor the Austinville Church of God in Decatur, AL. For the last twenty-five years, Harold has been faithful in loving service to his people. During that time, Harold has had the opportunity to preach the Gospel around the world. In the last two years, Harold has traveled to India, Africa, Israel, the Philippines, China, Honduras, Japan, and Korea. God appears to be opening doors for him to return to those countries and visit many more. He covets your prayers as the commits his life to preach this wonderful Gospel, literally, around the world.
“...Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit...” Matthew 28:19
